Key Account Manager
First up, tell us a little about you. Do you have any hobbies?
I just got back from skiing and did a bit of snowboarding too and came back with no scratches which is quite an achievement! I like to keep fit and stay active by going to the gym or playing sports. I’m really into my music, so I make some beats when I get the chance. I listen to anything from hip-hop to reggae music to drum & bass.
Where did your journey start with Genuine Solutions?
Right at the very beginning! I started working at Genuine Solutions along with a small team back in 2005, so I am basically part of the furniture! Our vision was to create an environment where everyone felt part of the team and had the motivation to achieve shared goals. My background is in music – I used to DJ and still do when I get the chance, but I realised it was never going to pay the bills! Mobiles and gadgets have always been a big interest of mine so when this opportunity came up, I had to grab it with both hands and go for gold.
And what does your job entail? What does a typical day involve?
My main role is in sales, but I have recently branched out more into the purchasing side of the business. I help to decide which products we sell, how much stock we want to purchase and how best to deliver to market. My job entails working with different channels of the business and setting strategic goals to deliver the best service to our customers.
It sounds like you really enjoy it! What is your favourite part of the job?
The best part of the job is going out and meeting customers. I enjoy being in the office and working with the team, but it’s nice to have a change of scenery and do a bit of networking with other people in the industry.
I have to ask – what is the worst thing about your job?
Stock-taking, without a doubt! It’s a lengthy old process which can take around two days and if you have to do a re-count it feels like it is never-ending.
Yes exactly. What other Genuine Solutions department would you like to work in and why?
Purchasing could be interesting to try out and see the business from the other side but selling is my strong point. I would like to try out the business development side of things to look at the bigger picture and see how Genuine Solutions can grow in the future
What has been a standout moment at Genuine Solutions?
The first time we won a Mobile News Award for Best Accessories Distributor was really special. We had attended the ceremony a few times, but it was really disheartening when we didn’t win. When we collected the award, it made it all worthwhile and felt like we were finally being recognised in the industry.
Finally, a few fun questions to finish off. If you were stranded on a desert island and you could take three things, what would they be and why?
Speakers to listen to some music, a phone to play the music and a power bank to keep the battery going for a while. Not sure how long I would survive on a desert island but at least there will be some good music!
What’s your favourite food and why?
That’s a tough one. It would have to be between Jamaican food or Chinese food. I always cook Jamaican food, but I love a chicken curry from the Chinese.
Who’s your inspiration and why?
Probably Chris, our CEO at Genuine Solutions. He has a ‘get up and go’ attitude to life and has the determination which I aspire to have. For him, it’s about the whole team and bringing everyone along with him on his journey to success.
If you could be any animal, which would you be and why?
This one is easy – a lion. Then I would be the king of the jungle.
Which four people, past or present, would you like to have dinner with the most and why?
My number one would be Morgan Freeman because I think he could bring some intellectual conversation to the table and he seems like a cool guy. Second would be Lewis Hamilton because I reckon, he has a few juicy stories to tell! Busta Rhymes would get an invite because we will obviously need some music. I can’t think of a fourth person, but it would probably be a fairly interesting dinner as it is!
